Minis: Red Dragon

Part of a series called Miniatures.

Sooner or later we all have to paint a dragon. It’s a rite of passage of sorts.

A red dragon with some purple in its wings.
Not sure where I got the confidence to paint something like this.

I drybrushed the purple with a stippling technique to create the gradient on the wings. Turned out a bit cloudy but hey, it looks organic. The fire is done with a glaze and can be removed since I didn’t glue it in.

The dragon from another angle.

Next time I think I’ll go for more contrast in the scales. I just used a dark red wash here.

The dragon from yet another angle.

What I like about the young dragon series from Nolzur’s Marvelous Miniatures is that they’re actually the size of adult dragons, and the adult ones are the size of ancient dragons. Bigger dragons, yay!

Lots of angles for this guy because he looks cool.

The adult dragons in the new series have a ring on their transparent bases to indicate their correct size. I guess making the bases the right size to begin with would make them topple over easily since the dragons are still absolutely massive. Relatively speaking, of course.
