Dungeons of Drakkenheim
In Tales from the Table.
Dungeons of Drakkenheim is a D&D 5th Edition adventure created by the Dungeon Dudes about a dark city ravaged by a mysterious meteor swarm.
I was fresh out of movies to rip off campaign ideas after running The Astral Scroll, so I ran a module instead. Drakkenheim was the winner of the vote and it turned out to be pretty awesome.
Here’s the official blurb:
Fifteen years ago, Drakkenheim was destroyed by an eldritch storm of falling stars. Now the city is a dismal urban wasteland contaminated by otherworldly magic and haunted by hideous monsters. Explore over 20 ruined urban locations, inspired by dark fantasy and cosmic horror! Personal quests, tantalizing rumors and lightweight urban exploration mechanics allow player characters to experience the ruins in a nonlinear and open-ended fashion.
A Few Things to Know About Drakkenheim
- The city is destroyed and full of monsters. Due to the shimmering fog known as the haze, characters gain no benefit from taking a long rest inside.
- Inside Drakkenheim grow the strange crystals known as delerium. They’re highly toxic, causing contamination and turning people into monsters. They’re also magical and incredibly valuable.
- There are five factions to cooperate with (or make enemies of) as the players please. They are The Amethyst Academy: mages seeking to harness the power of delerium, The Followers of the Falling Fire: a religious sect who consider delerium to be sacred, The Hooded Lanterns: a military force trying to restore the city and find an heir to the throne, Knights of the Silver Order: a church-sanctioned regiment tasked with destroying delerium, and the Queen’s Men: a loose affiliation of criminals loyal to the mysterious Queen of Thieves.
